Detail Description

The green house effect is the warming of the earth due to the accumulation of green house gases in the atmosphere. Burning of fossil fuels such as oil and coal to power cars and generate electricity emits carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The accumulated carbon dioxide traps the suns energy reflected off the earths surface, as if it were a green house roof. The trapped energy warms the gases and raises the earths temperature. A second source of carbon dioxide (C02) is gas released from permafrost in the polar region when it is heated due to the green house effect ? thus constitution a vicious feedback cycle.
